Why Solid Perfume Is Having a Moment
I’ve always liked carrying a fragrance with me, but liquid perfumes aren’t the most practical. They take up space, the caps get lost in bags, and the risk of spills is real. Solid perfumes have become my go-to because they’re portable, subtle, and effortless to reapply.
What is solid perfume?
A solid perfume is a balm-like scent composed of waxes and oils, applied with your fingertips. It usually comes in a small, portable container, making it easy to carry in your purse or travel bag.
The main difference between a solid perfume and a traditional liquid perfume is the texture. A solid perfume melts into the skin when applied. Because it is blended with oils, it tends to be less drying and works well for people with more sensitive skin.
Why are people loving them?
Solid perfumes are travel-friendly because they will not spill in your bag. They are convenient for discreet reapplication without being overpowering, and they offer a moisturizing feel on the skin. Many formulas also contain fewer artificial ingredients than some traditional sprays.
What are the downsides of a solid perfume?
Solids generally sit closer to the skin, so the scent can be softer and may require more frequent reapplication. They are also more sensitive to heat. If stored in a hot car or direct sunlight, the product can soften or melt.
How to apply solid perfume + tips
Apply to pulse points such as wrists, neck, behind the ears, and collarbone.
You can layer with a matching lotion to help the scent last longer.
Keep the container away from heat to maintain the formula.
Here are a few popular options with different scent profiles:
Glossier You Solid
A soft, clean skin scent with notes of pink pepper and ambrette. Subtle and personal. Ideal if you prefer a fragrance that feels like you, not something you are wearing.
Diptyque Do Son Solid
A white floral with tuberose, orange blossom, and jasmine. Elegant and romantic. Stronger presence than most solids while still being close to the skin.
NOYZ Only Human
Warm and modern with a hint of pink pepper and Italian bergamot. Gender-neutral and minimal packaging. A good pick if you like something smooth and not too sweet.
Fenty Eau de Parfum Solid
A warm floral with magnolia and Bulgarian rose (this is definitely one I want to buy because of the Bulgarian rose). Beautiful floral and more long-lasting than many balm perfumes. Great for evening reapplication.
Miss Dior Solid Perfume
A classic floral with a polished feel. A portable version of a well-known scent for those who prefer timeless over trendy.
Sidia The Solid Perfume
Inspired by clean, cozy notes. Stylish packaging that feels more like an accessory than a beauty product.
